<p>Well here I am in 2007 and still a non-smoker &#8211; yes, it is over a year since I gave up smoking so congratulations to me! I won&#8217;t pretend that it has been easy the whole time; and in fact there are still times when a cigarette seems quite appealing even now (especially during times of stress or worry); but my willpower has stayed with me and I have never seriously considered lighting up. I believe that once I made the decision to quit smoking then it was simply a matter of sticking with that decision and not changing my mind.</p>
<p>I suppose it is much the same with alcoholism; i.e. once a drinker, always a drinker &#8211; for &#8220;drinker&#8221; substitute &#8220;smoker&#8221;. The thing to understand is that the drink (or the cigarette) is not going to make the problem or the stress go away &#8211; you will still have to deal with it in the end &#8211; so why bother trying to mask it with another fix of your preferred drug?</p>
<p>Anyway, enough of my waffling. The point is that it is over a year since I had a cigarette and it is easier than ever not to smoke. Yes, it would be easy to start smoking again but I can&#8217;t afford to &#8211; either financially or otherwise. And to tell the truth; I simply don&#8217;t want to &#8211; I am enjoying my status as a non-smoker far too much!

<p>I am smoking again. There&#8217;s just too much going on right now for me to focus on it. I admit that I&#8217;m weak but I&#8217;m not giving up. I&#8217;ll get there again.</p>
<p>My throat feels like crap and my breathing is bad. I went for a physical the other day and passed with flying colors. I guess I&#8217;m healthy at the moment. Hopefully I can quit someday while I&#8217;m still healthy.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m thinking of trying again on Monday. We&#8217;ll see!</p>
<p>I feel like I have that smell again. That awful stale stench of an ashtray. How appealing. Even though I&#8217;m smoking at the moment I think I&#8217;ll continue to write. It helps with stress and my struggle to get back to being a non-smoker. It&#8217;s so easy sometimes to forget why we were doing this in the first place.</p>
<p>Heather was supposed to fly into Key West this weekend for vacation and to see my brother but it looks like it&#8217;ll be postponed. How crazy is this weather??? I&#8217;m just glad that she didn&#8217;t get there before the hurricane hit. Now I just hope my brother evacuates.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s been an exhausting day and week. I can&#8217;t believe it&#8217;s only Wednesday. I need a vacation. I think I&#8217;ll wait until after hurricane season.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s it for tonight considering I&#8217;m too tired to type.</p>
<p>Note to Ellen: I&#8217;m so sorry to hear about you Mother in Law. You are so strong to be able to get through such a tragedy and not smoke. My best to you and your whole family.

<p>May 21st marked a full year without cigarettes.</p>
<p>How am I doing? I didn&#8217;t think about it until May 23rd.</p>
<p>The freedom from smoking has changed my life. I could sit here and tell you about being able to hustle up stairs, or that my clothes don&#8217;t stink or how good food tastes, but in reality the biggest thing about being smoke-free, aside from physical health, is purely psychological &#8211; I am free from an addiction. My life no longe revolves around smoking. That speaks louder than anything else.</p>
<p>I plum forgot about my one-year anniversary because I simply don&#8217;t think about smoking much anymore. Occasionally the topic will cross my mind, usually when talking to another smoker who also wants to quit. I tell them what they&#8217;ve heard is true &#8211; you have to want to quit. You have to want it more than anything else. Most people who smoke like smoking, even if they really can&#8217;t see why anymore. The satisfaction factor for their cravings has earned the title of &#8220;something I like to do&#8221;.</p>
<p>I no longer think about when my next break is, or if I can sneak out between breaks to catch a smoke. I don&#8217;t have to remember to suck one down before a movie, or a dinner out. No more standing in bad weather, or cracking the car window. Its not that the cessation of these activities is a big deal in and of themselves, its that I don&#8217;t even think about doing them. It&#8217;s <span style="font-style: italic;">natural</span> to not do them.</p>
<p>A few days ago, I walked out of a diner where a couple of men were standing outside, and one remarked that he was going to ask me for a light but <span style="font-style: italic;">I didn&#8217;t look like someone who smoked</span>. Wow!, I thought in my head. Something else I hadn&#8217;t considered &#8211; people who smoke generally look like people who smoke. That comment made my whole day &#8211; I was telling friends &#8220;hey, I don&#8217;t look like I smoke&#8221; (of course, there&#8217;s always the wise cracker who says &#8220;yeah, but you&#8217;re still ugly&#8221;).</p>
<p>So, unless I have a relapse &#8211; and I don&#8217;t see it happening &#8211; you likely wont hear from me again. Since I don&#8217;t smoke, and I don&#8217;t think about smoking, I&#8217;ve simply run out of things I can say about it. And that&#8217;s great &#8211; not having a thing to say about smoking, because it&#8217;s so not part of who I am and what I do.</p>
<p>I am an ex-smoker. I hope all of you reach your one-year anniversary and become true ex-smokers, too.

We are going to make everything possible to be as explicit as possible. Plenty of things are happening to people all over the world every day but it seems ignorance is still dominating some of the most important aspects and as matter of fact we are here to prove that something can be done and there is hope for the future, hope for each and everyone of you to quit smoking and to cease the tobacco addiction once and for all. Today we are going to talk about kindness, courage, faith and honor – these being the most important and fundamental values that one person must have in order to be able to get rid of the nicotine addiction once and for all and to change his or her life in the end. While many people are striving to get rid of this without any good results we are insisting here only on <a href="http://stopsmokingplan.com/goto/http://howtoquitsmokingnews.blogspot.com/2008/11/natural-ways-to-quit-smoking.html" >natural ways to cease smoking</a> and would like to tell our readers that no matter what others are trying to tell you and sell to you and push and market there are still some basic elementary methods, tricks and tips that are going to help you cure this weakness without wasting your money. If you don’t believe that you always have an alternative. Choose another direction.</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span>Ceasing to smoke is crucial people. Did you know that almost every five to ten seconds someone dies because of cancer? Do you want to be the next one? Aren’t you sick and tired of what is going on in this world and want to do something in order to change things? There are many issues that need to be analyzed carefully and talked about here. However, we cannot manage them all and today there is plenty of time for all of you to try and dominate what has been said to that part where each and everyone of you can take its own decision and say once and for all that today it’s time to <a href="http://stopsmokingplan.com/goto/http://howtoquitsmokingnews.blogspot.com/2008/11/help-someone-stop-smoking.html" >help someone stop smoking</a>, today it’s time to quit the smoking urge once and for all and you should be the one who actually does it by taking this decision, by winning upon your weakness. Those who think that the whole world is guilty and not only they are and that the society made them to smoke and damage badly their lungs and healthy are making one major mistake and basically don’t have any idea about what is really going on. People were, are and continue to be weak and to fear the truth. This is a big characteristic of the whole human kind. We still don’t know if something can be done about it but as long as there are people who are trying to do everything possible to stop smoking, to quit once and for all using today’s best quit smoking cessation programs that are highly available in the whole world.</p>
<p>The problem that we are facing today in the health market is not the quit smoking products that are being sold almost everywhere. The main issue is therefore combined in the people’s way of thinking and because not everyone are trying to admit that there are plenty other stuff to do in life except just trying to figure out how to quit smoking most of you guys are failing and that is a pity. We are having quite and philosophical approach when talking and rambling and analyzing things that people might be interested in, especially when it’s about smoking. There are plenty of stuff and we need to understand that what is done has to be done till the end. A lot of those that are writing to us on a daily basis asking about our <a href="http://stopsmokingplan.com/goto/http://howtoquitsmokingnews.blogspot.com/2008/11/hypnotherapy-to-quit-smoking-what-is.html" >hypnotherapy methods to quit smoking</a> and many other issues that we talked about in our previous posts still think that there is some kind of magic bullet that is basically going to help each and every smoker out there to do what he has to do by himself i.e. quit smoking now!</p>
<p>No one is going to help you do that except of you. There are no others that are going to try and do what they have to do just for the sake of helping you quit smoking. It is enough, many have already suffered and you need to be aware of the facts that there are plenty of other reasons that we ignore on purpose just for the sake of saying that we are not able to quit smoking because this and that and because something hurts today and because the weather is bad today and because we are not able to go into sports and because my head hurts the first three or four days when we try to smoking and many other pathetic reasons that most of you find irritating and annoying and that is why give up smoking pretty quick without even “leaving your home” (meaning without even trying to support the pain and suffering a little bit). If you think that we are a bit cruel here when addressing this message to the whole world that is searching for more worthless quit smoking programs out there you might be right. However, there are some things that you might read here and that you won’t find anywhere else in the world, on other websites, forums, etc. Yes, people are saying that they always help each other quit smoking but this is a big lie. They are constantly concealing one another that it is good not to quit for the first time and that failure is okay. When you look directly at all those quit smoking cessation forums you realize that they are not having the proper attitude that is going to make them convince other like them to stop smoking, to start another life, to convince themselves and other to quit smoking – which is in fact that main reason why everything is being written, told, published and let the world to discover. We have our own interests here but as you probably understand we are hoping that people change their way of thinking. Well, yes, actually it can go that deep. <p>I hope everyone hasn&#8217;t given up on stopping smoking? Kelly did you set a stop date to just say I have had enough of this being a slave to cigarettes and be strong and over come the urge to light up? I guess it is somewhat harder to stop when someone you live with still smokes, you might feel like you are being deprived of something you enjoy doing, I really did enjoy smoking and for the longest time I really didn&#8217;t want to stop in fact I told people that when they asked me why I didn&#8217;t stop. I always wondered what people did with their hands all the time since they didn&#8217;t smoke. Well now that I don&#8217;t smoke I don&#8217;t miss not holding a cigarette all the time, in fact it is actually more handy not to have to find somewhere to lay a cigarette while I am trying to do something.</p>
<p>I think today is the last day this month to follow the almanac but there are 3 days next month I think and I believe that the 3rd is one of them I could be wrong on that, and I know some folks think that is a lot of witch craft or star gazing but there are gazillions of old timers and some not so old timers that swear by it, and I will admit, I think there is something to it too and not only the smoking thing.</p>
<p>Gigi50 I guess you are still not smoking? I also noticed some <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">withdrawals</span> or what ever they are called but everyone I talk to in the medical field tells me that will all get better in a while. I hope so because some of it is annoying, do you notice getting up in the middle of the night almost every night, I do, from 12:00 to 2:00 every night and it is hard to get enough sleep like that and I even get night sweats some times, I guess it could be <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">menopause</span>..<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">lol</span> but really I am not sure what causes it.</p>
<p>Anyway, I wanted to check in with the folks on here and see how you all are doing. Good luck. Be safe.</p>

<p>Perhaps the side effects are just from quitting? </p>
<p>Being BITCHY, SNAPPY, GRUMPY, GASSY, CRAPPY,  SLEEPLESS, HUNGRY (god I sound like the 7 dwarfs all rolled into one)  I probably snuffed Snow White but just don&#8217;t remember doing it.</p>
<p>Sleepless = not sleeping, insomnia, tired, cannot get enough of the infomercial world until the early early edition of the news shows up around what 3:00 am</p>
<p>Gassy = OMG you would think I&#8217;d eaten enough pinto beans to be my own blazing saddles!</p>
<p>Crappy = crappy taste in my mouth YUCK</p>
<p>Hungry = I could eat the kitchen counter some days, silestone isn&#8217;t good for one&#8217;s digestive system</p>
<p>Bitchy/Snappy/Grumpy = well those are all self defining now aren&#8217;t they?</p>
<p><em><strong>Positives (that I&#8217;ve noticed)</strong></em></p>
<p><em>My skin looks 100% better</em><br /><em>I don&#8217;t have to have waxing done as often</em><br /><em>Food tastes better</em><br /><em>Those wrinkles around my mouth are diminishing</em><br /><em>My voice is different clearer, less raspy (I don&#8217;t sound like that woman on Beetlejuice anymore)</em><br /><em>Cardio isn&#8217;t a dirty word anymore</em><br /><em>My sense of smell seems better</em><br /><em>No Sinus infections</em><br /><em>Yellowish tint to my fingernails is gone</em><br /><em></em><br /><em></em><br /><em>Enough Ranting for Now</em>

<p>I thought I&#8217;d post another video today. It&#8217;s from one of the most famous and successful quit smoking practitioners; the late Allen Carr. You must have seen his books on the subject. Anyway, in this video he debunks 4 of the myths that smokers believe is what makes things difficult when they want to give up.</p>
<p>So if you&#8217;re thinking of quitting the weed, then watch this short film. As an ex-smoker I can tell you that it&#8217;s all true! Once you realise that they really are myths the quitting process is easy&#8230;</p>

<p>I am over half way through month 8 (yep, 8 months! Can you believe it?) now as a non-smoker and as I haven&#8217;t written anything here for a while I guess there might be one or two people wondering how it has been going.</p>
<p>Well, pretty easy actually. Although I recently went to Mallorca on holiday and found myself fancying a cigarette &#8211; like I said a while back; familiar but infrequent situations seem to trigger cravings. The cravings aren&#8217;t like in the early days of giving up smoking though, and it seems easier to just switch my mind on to something else and forget about smoking.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t know when I will post here again because quite frankly I haven&#8217;t really got anything to say about quitting smoking. I think I&#8217;ve cracked the whole giving up smoking thing and it is not the obsession it was when I started this blog. Perhaps I&#8217;ll come here to celebrate a whole year of not smoking. That will be on January 1st 2007; see you then!
