Mental Preparation For Quitting Smoking

by admin on April 7, 2010

I was just thinking about what it used to be like to be a smoker and I suddenly realised that it was about 2 years ago now that I started thinking seriously about quitting. Yes, I think it is fair to say that there was some mental preparation long before I actually stubbed out my last cigarette. For one thing; even though I was still a smoker at that time, I used to consider the reasons why I was smoking each cigarette during the day – first thing in the morning, or after a meal for example. It wasn’t long before I started to cut down, and put off routine smokes: Perhaps I was testing my willpower?

It’s all water under the bridge now of course, but I realise now that the whole giving up smoking process started well before my first blog post here. So if you would like to quit the habit (and you should) then start making those ‘mental preparations’ now so that when the time comes you will be ready. Good luck!

Recently I suffered a heart attack, and was rushed to hospital by ambulance, had an angiogram and two stents placed in my right artery due to a 95% and 70% blockage. I have been a smoker for 21 years and so it was time to get rid of the fags!
I have set up a blog http://can-stop-smoking.com/ so we have a central place to hold articles of interest about smoking… and show that we CAN STOP SMOKING.

I am happy to chat and would love you to comment or put forward your thoughts. There is no turning back now! I look forward to feeling healthier and having more energy.
