Based on clinical studies, puffing one cigarette can shorten a smoker’s life span by 11 minutes. Research has proclaimed that smoking reduces the expectancy of life by seven to eight years. Merely about 91% of lung cancer cases and 31 percent of deaths from cancer is in relation to smoking. Deaths that are related to puffing the bad habit are because of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), cancers and heart diseases. Believe it or not, smoking-related illnesses kill about more than half of all smokers. In majority of the situations, those who started to smoke in their early years also make it a life-long bad habit. And these early smokers basically are the ones who are prone to diseases caused by smoking.
Why do many people still smoke despite the fact that we know the devastating effects of the bad habit of smoking? Smoking is one of the hardest habits to break because of its addictive substance called nicotine. Like heroin and other addictive substances, the body and the mind quickly become so dependent that the person needs to take it to feel at ease.
Many people smoke for multiple reasons. Some smoke because it is the “in” thing to do. Others started smoking because of family or peer pressure. ninety percent of the smokers started smoking even before they reached 18 years old. They never expected to become hooked up or addicted.
Majority of the people breathe smoke coming from the cigarette inevitably. We usually inhale public smoke, around doorways of building and at work. I someone smokes inside a home or car, everyone that is inside practically breathe second-hand smoke. When a person smokes in front of you, you also breathe in second hand smoke. Second hand smoke is produced when a cigarette burns. It is basically made up of two components, the main stream smoke and the side stream smoke. The main stream is what the smoker inhales and exhales. The side stream smoke comes directly from the burning cigarette or pipe.
Cigarette produces an average of twelve minutes per stick, yet the smokers may inhale only about half a minute of smoke from their cigarette. The rest of the smoke wanders n the free air for non smokers and smokers to breathe. Second hand smoke contains more than 4000 chemicals and majority of them are known to cause cancers and serious diseases.
To add to that, second hand smoke also causes sore eyes, throat and nasal infection, coughing, dizziness and nausea. One can also acquire colds and the flu. If you inhaled second hand smoke, this can also trigger asthma attacks and levels u your chances of acquiring pneumonia and bronchitis. It will affect your health even more if you will be exposed to second hand smoke for a long time.
There is only one sole thing that can help the people avoid dilemmas that are in relation to second hand smoking, and that is to stay smoke-free. It seem easy to limit your exposure to second hand smoking, but it’s not especially if everyone that surrounds you are engage in the bad habit of smoking. You can keep your house smoke free by smoking outside. On the other hand, please bear in mind that smoke can stay for up to two and a half hours, so opening a window or leaving the room doesn’t really give you an assurance. And even the slightest and the lightest exposure to second hand smoke is still dangerous. My advice to you is: “it is never too late to stop smoking and quit the bad habit”. You can also save other people’s lives and save them from inhaling second hand smoke.
